Governor's Office Highway Safety Award
GOHS Grant Award for Stabilization Struts
The Three Points Fire District (TPFD) has been awarded a $10,549 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). TPFD will use the grant funds to purchase new stabilization struts for use during motor vehicle collisions (MVCs).
The new equipment will provide TPFD firefighters with an additional tool to safely stabilize vehicles involved in rollover-type collisions. Stabilization struts are critical to protecting both vehicle occupants and firefighters during rescue operations.
TPFD responds to as many as 45 motor vehicle collisions annually, many of which involve high speeds. When a vehicle rolls over, it can become unstable, creating additional hazards for both occupants and rescuers. Stabilizing the vehicle is an essential first step before occupants can besafely removed. In these situations, every second matters. The new stabilization struts will allow TPFD personnel to more quickly and safely remove occupants who may have suffered traumatic injuries, helping firefighters work within the critical “Golden Hour” following a serious injury.
The Three Points Fire District appreciates and is grateful to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for its continued support and dedication to improving highway safety and assisting first responders in protecting the communities they serve.
